Apathy as Non-Motor Manifestation in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

چکیده
Abstract Although the term of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is often used interchangeably with motor neuron disease, ALS universally accepted as a multisystem disorder. Cognitive impairment an acknowledged feature ALS, affecting language, memory and behaviour, apathy considered to be prevalent behavioural alteration in ALS. It can divided three subtypes: executive, emotional initiation apathy. Out subtypes, common among patients Even that do not meet criteria for frontotemporal dementia, low-key neuropsychiatric cognitive changes observed. Apathy has also been found systematically associated disruptions medial frontal cortex subcortical structures several neuroimaging studies confirm pre-existing brain lesions early stages this disease. Thus, there growing body evidence signs symptoms are accompanied or even preceded by alterations, screening non-motor clinically relevant.

Molecular Motor Proteins and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disorder affecting motor neurons in the brain, brainstem and spinal cord, which is characterized by motor dysfunction, muscle dystrophy and progressive paralysis. Both inherited and sporadic forms of ALS share common pathological features, however, the initial trigger of neurodegeneration remains unknown. Motor neurons are uniquely targ...
متن کاملAmyotrophic lateral sclerosis: a dying motor unit?
INTRODUCTION ALS is a late-onset neurodegenerative disease of unknown etiology. Since it was first described (Charcot, 1874), several mechanisms, such as oxidative stress, glutamate excitotoxicity, glial cell pathology, or aberrant RNA metabolism (for review, see Vucic and Kiernan, 2009). Recently the evidence accumulates that mitochondrial damage and defective axonal transport may play a pivot...
متن کاملAmyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis in a Patient with Behçet’s Disease
Behçet’s disease is a multisystem vasculitis. Its neurological involvement mostly includes parenchymal and non-parenchymal central nervous system manifestations. Peripheral nervous system presentations are rare. A 32-yr-old male patient who fulfilled the international study group criteria for Behçet’s disease, referred to our center with walking difficulty and repeated falling downs. Neurologi...
متن کاملAmyotrophic lateral sclerosis as a paraneoplastic manifestation in the neuroendocrine tumor of stomach: a case report.
Motor neuron diseases have been reported as a rare paraneoplastic syndrome (PNS) of a systemic neoplasm. We present a patient with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in association with neuroendocrine tumor (NET) of stomach, which is the first case of motor neuronopathy with underlying neuroendocrine tumor. A 79-year old woman presented with a two months history of progressive dysphagia, spast...
متن کاملImpaired Structural Motor Connectome in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a severe neurodegenerative disease selectively affecting upper and lower motor neurons. Patients with ALS suffer from progressive paralysis and eventually die on average after three years. The underlying neurobiology of upper motor neuron degeneration and its effects on the complex network of the brain are, however, largely unknown. Here, we examined the e...
